- 4 Pears (peeled)
- 500ml red wine
- 500ml water
- 100g caster sugar
- 30g cocoa powder (sifterd)
- 7cm orange rind
- 1 tbs honey
Drunken poached pears with hot chocolate sauce are great all-rounders. Very popular as a warm winter dessert, and the best part it is virtually fat free. This is quick a simple recipe that will take no longer than 5 mins to prepare.
1. Peel all the pears and remove the core at the base but remember to leave the steams intact.
2. Mix the wine, water, sugar and cocoa powder in a saucepan over medium heat until sugar dissolves. Add orange rind and bring to the boil. Reduce heat to medium-low. Add pears and simmer for 30-40 minutes or until tender. Place the pears on a plate and cover them to keep it warm.
3. Add 1 tbs of honey into the sauce and stir it until dissolved. Bring to the boil. Boil for 12 minutes or until the sauce thickens. Once ready you can pour it over the pears.
